The Mushaka washing station sits at 1683m altitude in Rwanda's Southern Province, within the Rusizi District. Established by Rwanda Trading Company in 2016, it covers less than a hectre yet processes over 220,000kg of cherries annually. Managed by Lin Bahati, the station operates with a small year-round team, expanding to 60 seasonal workers during harvest.
Despite its small size, Mushaka plays a vital role in the local coffee community, with 1,267 smallholders supplying their harvests. Farmers use organic fertilisers and many have expanded their farms with RTC-provided seedlings.
Surrounded by four competing washing stations, Mushaka thrives in a high-production environment, consistently meeting its targets and ensuring stable incomes for farmers.
