Journey into the Outdoors #12: Team Kickback

Everyone’s time outdoors is different no matter how big or small we are here for it.

The year has started in style - snow days keeping us busy, sledging and snowboarding right out of the roastery door. As the season feels well underway, the team are deep in planning mode for the adventures and trips for the year ahead.

Hearing each others stories is always inspiring. It sparks ideas and gives us the momentum to plan our own time outdoors. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite moments we hope to recreate from the year just gone.

Where and how are you planning to spend your time outside this year? Let us know in the comments below!

Molly – Cold Water Swimming in the Lakes
Cold water swimming became a big part of my outdoor time last year. There’s something so calming about being in the water and surrounding myself with beautiful views. It has been my way of switching off and I’m looking forward to doing more of it.

Chris – Off-Road Adventures in Girona
From the cafes and restaurants of the Old Town, to pre-Pyrenean peaks and coastal meanderings. Girona feels a special place to ride my bike.

Alex – Camaraderie at Ard Rock Festival
One of my highlights this year was our team campout during the Ard Rock Festival. Set against the Yorkshire Dales, the days were filled with serving coffee to riders and cycling the challenging trails. While the evenings were spent around the campsite, sharing food and stories with the team.

Monica – Leading Women’s Rides
Starting my own women’s-only rides from Pinarello has been one of the most rewarding parts of my year. Sharing my passion for cycling with a wider community and seeing the joy it brings to others has been incredible. It’s a great feeling to know I’m helping bring people together and put smiles on their faces.

Josh – Recharging in the Hills
This year, I’ve made a conscious effort to get outside more, whether it’s rock climbing, hiking, or just parking the van somewhere with friends. Losing track of time in the outdoors has been vital for my mental and physical health. Even 15 minutes outside can make a difference, especially in the darker winter months. Living so close to the Peak District has been a gift—a constant reminder to reset and recharge.

Harvey – Home Adventures
I went back home up to the Hebridean Islands. I spent the whole time fishing and brewing up Kickback coffee. It’s the perfect combination of inner peace and natural beauty.

David – Family Adventure on the West Highland Way
Walking the West Highland Way with my family- Eight humans, four dogs, 154 kilometers in five days. I first did the route 12 years ago, so sharing this experience with my family this time made it even more special.

Ted – Sunrise Walks from the Roastery
Early morning walks with the team to catch the sunrise— winter sunrises are a perfect time for catching them on the hill before heading into the roastery. Some mornings we embrace the drizzle, but others we are welcomed with blue sky mornings. No matter the weather it is always a great way to start the day.

Kian – A Day in the Peaks
At the start of the year, I planned a long doorstep adventure. This covered all the major peaks in the Macclesfield area. We started in the dark before sunrise- It was a cold day, with icicles lining the moors and clocked 20 miles from dawn to dusk. Walking all day through familiar hills was both challenging and deeply satisfying.

Lauren – Views from Cliseam
One of my most memorable days of 2024 was spent walking Cliseam on the Isle of Harris. The remote mountain offers stunning views of Skye and the Cuillin mountains. It was a full days walk with friends, surrounded by an incredible landscape—an experience I’ll never forget.

Alex - Time spent in the water
For my ironman training I had to spend more time in the water. My highlight of the year was being in Plas Gywnant and deciding to swim the full length and back. The achievement of the distance wasn’t the highlight - the beauty in the stillness was. One of the most beautiful places - taking breaths and seeing Snowdon was incredible.
