Las Brisas - Guatemala

Marvin Carias purchased his first parcel of land in the Las Brisas area in 1990. Over the decades he gradually expanded the farm, improving agricultural practices, replanting older trees and implementing shade management systems to support both coffee quality and biodiversity. Today, Marvin operates both Finca Las Brisas and a wet mill, where he processes not only his own coffee but also cherries purchased from neighouring producers, creating economic opportunities throughout the local community. Coffee production has transformed life in Aldea Las Brisas, contributing to improved roads, schools and healthcare facilities that benefit everyone in the area.

Sustainability sits at the heart of Marvin's operation. His wet mill features an innovative system of 98 wastewater treatment ponds, naturally purifying processing water before it is safely returned to the environment. Clean water from the final pond is recirculated through the mill, significantly reducing water consumption. After harvest, cherries are depulped and fermented for approximately 12 hours before being washed and carefully in-dried on patios. This meticulous washed process results in a cup with exceptional clarity, sweetness and balance.
