Description

This lot is composed of coffee cultivated and harvested by around 200 small-holder farmers and processed at The Coffee Gardens’ central washing station in the Sironko district, on the slopes of Mount Elgon. This particular lot is named after Jackie Nafuna, TCG’s Field and Processing Officer, in appreciation of her dedicated work. It is processed using an experimental method where the cherry skin removed during de-pulping is added back into the tank to co-ferment together with the coffee for 23hrs before it is washed and dried. And the result is a silky sweet and delicious fruit-forward cup!

How To Enjoy

Filter coffee is a classic and super tasty way to enjoy your brew.

It’s made by pouring hot water over ground coffee beans and letting it drip through a paper or metal filter. Simple, clean, and packed with flavour — that’s why so many coffee lovers swear by it. All of our feature coffees are omni roasted, which means they work great as filter or espresso, no matter how you brew. Filter brewing, though, really brings out the unique flavours of the beans — from the origin and process to the producer behind it. Since filter roasts are usually light to medium, you get a smooth, balanced cup with a clean finish.

Whether you're using a classic cafetière, a V60, or an AeroPress, filter coffee can be a seriously good experience. A good place to start is 15g of coffee to 250g of water — then tweak it to suit your taste. We always recommend going for whole beans and grinding fresh for the best flavour, but we offer pre-ground too if that’s easier.

Orders placed after 2.30pm (weekdays) will arrive within 72 hours
Orders placed on the weekend, bank holiday, or after 2.30pm on a Friday will be collected the following Monday, to arrive by the Wednesday.

Norman Mukuru - The Coffee Yard

The Coffee Yard is a new commercial partner to The Coffee Gardens who are supporting Norman Mukuru and his team to bring his coffees to the UK. This relationship is now in its second year.

The Coffee Gardens have known Norman for a number of years and built a relationship on sharing knowledge and learning from each other around processing and creating farmer traceabilty programs. It is based off this history and trust that they have been able to develop the relationship to now export Norman's coffee.

Based in the foothills of Mount Elgon sourcing coffee from the districts of Sironko, Mbale, Bulambuli and Kapchorwa, Norman established The Coffee Yard which is a huge centre for receiving and drying coffee. Norman has extensive experience in coffee working for nearly 20 years in the industry and he has been producing naturals since 2018; often tweaking his processes to find the profiles that his clients have been looking for.
